Primary Sources on Communication in Utah - Governors' Correspondence

In connection with this year's NHD theme, Communication in History: The Key to Understanding, State Archives has created this research guide to correspondence (letters, etc.) to and from Utah's governors. Please see attached!

How to Use this Guide:

Look especially at the Topics listed under a governor to get an idea of what connections your students might find to their own research. For example, correspondence surrounding the 1915 trial and execution of IWW activist Joe Hill (Joseph Hillstrom) can be found in Governor William Spry's papers. (Joe Hill was a songwriter for the labor movement, a form of communication!)

Students can do keyword searches at the State Archives website for direct access to materials that are available digitally to the public.

If they identify materials from this guide that aren't available digitally, they can contact a Research Archivist at historyresearch@utah.gov. The archivists can scan and email items to students.

And this seems like a good time to remind you that we award a $500 prize for outstanding project on Utah History at our state contest!
